Ocean Series //non flash website

The design of each ring tells a story of an ocean, inspired by its particular geographic location, climate, currents, or simply its own cultural context.

The Ocean Series rings are made from either high tensile steel (EN24t), or Titanium, or a combination of both. The material finishes help to graphically illustrate the designs and exude elegance, purity and quality. The high tensile steel is hand polished and then ‘blued’ by Johnson and Co. Ltd. (Gun Barrel Browners) of London, to give each ring a deep iridescent blue/green finish, whilst the polished Titanium has a slightly warm silver finish.

All the rings are discretely engraved by Brown and Hawthorne Ltd. with the ocean name, a unique serial number and the designer’s signature.

Each ring is hand produced and made to order in the UK. It takes up to one month to be completed, due to the high precision manufacturing techniques and level of hand-finishing required. The rings are available in most common sizes.

The designer of the Ocean Series, Hugo Nightingale, has always been passionate about all forms of design and it was his fascination with the sea that led him to create this series. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in London, Hugo has worked as an automotive designer across Europe and in North America. He currently lives and works in Warwickshire in the UK.

The Ocean series is available directly from Hugo through the Ocean Series website or from selected boutique stores.

Arctic Ocean ring

Design

The Arctic Ocean is the smallest of the five World Oceans and is mostly made up of frozen ice.

During the last half century there has been a gradual warming of this ocean, melting its frozen surface.

The form of the Arctic Ocean ring symbolises the melting of this almost land-locked ocean with the exterior profile defined by a structured ice-like form. In profile the the form melts away into a wave-like section.

The Arctic Ocean ring is engraved by Brown and Hawthorne Ltd, with the name of the ring, the limited edition serial number and the designer’s signature. This ring is part of a limited edition series of 999 pieces.

Materials

The Arctic ring is available in two materials and finishes:

Option 1

The ring is available in high tensile steel (EN24t), which is engraved and then hand polished before being ‘blued’ by Johnson and Co. Ltd. (Gun Barrel Browners) of London. The bluing process gives the ring a deep iridescent blue/green finish.

Option 2

The ring is available in Titanium, which is engraved and then hand polished. The polishing gives the ring a bright slightly warm silver finish.

Price

The Arctic Ocean ring is available in 2 options:

Option 1

In blued high tensile steel (eN24t) that retails at £490 in any of the 6 standard sizes currently available.

Option 2

In polished Titanium that retails at £540 in any of the 6 standard sizes currently available.
Please note that if you order your ring in any other size than those currently available, there will be an additional charge of £100.

Atlantic Ocean ring

Design

The Atlantic Ocean is the second largest of the world’s oceans, straddling both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres in almost equal measure. It seemed appropriate that the Atlantic Ocean ring reflects this characteristic of the ocean.

The three-piece Atlantic Ocean ring is therefore formed from a pure elliptical section with the two hemispheres symbolised by two semi-ellipses separated by the Equator, a bright annular wave.

The right-hand semi-ellipse is engraved by Brown and Hawthorne Ltd, with the name of the ring, the limited edition serial number and the designer’s signature.
This ring is part of a limited edition series of 999 pieces.

Materials

The Atlantic Ocean ring is available in two material combinations and finishes:

Option 1:

The outer semi-ellipses are made from high tensile steel (EN24t) which are engraved and then hand polished before being ‘blued’ by
Brown and Hawthorne Ltd. The bluing process gives the semi-ellipses a deep iridescent blue/green finish.

The centre annular wave is made from Titanium which is hand polished. The polishing gives the ring a bright slightly warm silver finish.

Option 2:

The outer semi-ellipses are made from Titanium, the right-hand part being engraved before being hand polished. The polishing gives
the ring a bright slightly warm silver finish. The centre annular wave is made from high tensile steel (EN24t) which is
engraved and then hand polished before being ‘blued’ by Johnson & Co. Ltd. (Gun Barrel Browners) of London.
The bluing process gives the wave a deep iridescent blue green finish.

Price

The Atlantic ring is available in 2 options:

Option 1

Blued high tensile steel (eN24t) outer semi-ellipses with a polished titanium centre annular wave that retails at £1008 in any of the 6 standard sizes currently available.

Option 2

Polished Titanium outer semi-ellipses with a blued high tensile steel (eN24t) centre annular wave that retails at £1392 in any of the 6 standard sizes currently available.

Please note that if you order your ring in any size other than those currently available, there will be an additional charge of £100.

All prices include UK VAT at 20%

Indian Ocean ring

Design

Inspired by traditional silhouettes and motifs, the Indian Ocean ring is a balance movement and graphic as the wave-like intersection between the two halves traverses the concave ring section.
The contrasting materials that make up this two-piece ring highlight the changes in volume of the two halves as well as the harmony and balance that this ring exudes.

The right-hand part of the Indian Ocean ring is engraved by Brown and Hawthorne Ltd, with the name of the ring, the limited edition serial number and the designer’s signature. This ring is part of a limited edition series of 999 pieces.

Materials

The Indian ring is available in a single finish:

The right-hand part of the Indian Ocean ring is made from high tensile steel (EN24t), which is then hand polished before being ‘blued’ by Johnson and Co. Ltd (Gun Barrel Browners) of London. The bluing process gives the ring a deep iridescent blue green finish.

The left-hand part of the Indian Ocean ring is made from Titanium, which is engraved and then hand polished. The polishing gives the ring a bright slightly warm silver finish.

Price

The Indian ring is available in one single option only and retails at £816 in any of the 6 standard sizes currently available.

Please note that if you order your ring in any other size than those currently available, there will be an additional charge of £100.

All prices include UK VAT at 20%

Southern Ocean ring

Design

The Southern Ocean is the fourth largest of the World Oceans, only delimited by the International Hydrographic Organisation in 2000. With near freezing water temperatures and frequent sea ice, the Southern Ocean is a hostile environment to navigate. The Southern Ocean ring has 4 facets and an ice-inspired form, with at its graphical centre, the frozen continent of Antarctica.

The wave like form that runs around the ring represents the very powerful Antarctic circumpolar current. This current redistributes heat and other properties to the surrounding oceans influencing global patterns of temperature and rainfall.

The right-hand part of the Southern Ocean ring is engraved by Brown and Hawthorne Ltd, with the name of the ring, the limited edition serial number and the designer’s signature. This ring is part of a limited edition series of 999 pieces.

Materials

The Southern ring is available in a single finish:

The right-hand part of the Southern Ocean ring is made from high tensile steel (EN24t), which is then hand polished before being ‘blued’ by Johnson and Co. Ltd (Gun Barrel Browners) of London. The bluing process gives the ring a deep iridescent blue green finish.

The left-hand part of the Southern Ocean ring is made from Titanium, which is engraved and then hand polished. The polishing gives the ring a bright slightly warm silver finish.

Price

The Southern ring is available in a single option only and retails at £772 in any of the 6 standard sizes currently available.

Please note that if you order your ring in any other size than those currently available, there will be an additional charge of £100.

Pacific Ocean ring

Design

The Pacific Ocean is made up of a series warming and cooling currents that circulate around the ocean. In the Northern Hemisphere these currents flow in a clockwise direction and are called the North Pacific Gyre. In the Southern Hemisphere the South Pacific Gyre flows in a counter-clockwise direction. The Pacific Ocean ring includes two long wavelength low amplitude waves that counter-rotate around the circumference of the ring representing these two ocean Gyre systems.

The Pacific Ocean ring is engraved by Brown and Hawthorne Ltd, with the name of the ring, the limited edition serial number and the designer’s signature. This ring is part of a limited edition series of 999 pieces.

Materials

The Pacific Ocean ring is available in two materials and finishes:

Option 1

The ring is available in high tensile steel (EN24t), which is engraved and then hand polished before being ‘blued’ by Johnson and Co. Ltd (Gun Barrel Browners) of London. The bluing process gives the ring a deep iridescent blue green finish.
